What is the difference between a bar table and a cocktail table? Bar tables and cocktail tables are the same thing — high-top tables typically 42 inches tall that guests stand around. They're perfect for cocktail hours and networking events where you want guests mingling rather than seated. We use both terms interchangeably.

How many bar tables do I need for my event? For a cocktail hour, plan for one bar table per 6–8 standing guests. For a reception with both seated and standing areas, we recommend placing bar tables around the perimeter of the room and near the bar area. As a general rule, 1 bar table per 10 guests works well for mixed seated/standing events.
